As well as photographing commercial real estate in North Carolina, we also shoot residential real estate. Residential real estate photography poses the same challenges as commercial real estate photography. When shooting interiors we have to be careful of the different lighting situations eg the warm tungsten light from lamps balanced with the blue UV light coming from outside. We also have to take numerous shots to balance the exposure between the bright light outside and the darker lights inside the building.
External shots also take some consideration as we often try to get nice blue skies behind the building which means we need to know where the sun is at any particular time of the day. There is nothing worse than having to shoot into the sun and getting lens flare across the building which we then have to handle on post production.
The other challenge that we face with residential real estate photography is timing. While its relatively easy photographing a house that is unoccupied and has been staged beautifully, it is a lot more challenging photographing a house that someone is living in.
There is also the time pressure in returning finished images back to the realtors so that they can get their listings up quickly.
All of the factors above are why I enjoy photography and the different challenges that each day brings. I have been a commercial photographer in Raleigh, NC now for almost twenty years.
